After completing a bachelor’s degree in commerce with distinction and another in kinesiology from the University of Calgary, I jumped right into the Calgary corporate world. Seeking a challenge, I joined a national commercial real estate brokerage as a licensed sales assistant. While the commercial side provided an excellent learning experience, I was lucky to learn very quickly that my place was not sitting in front of a computer calculating net rents and operating costs. I craved a greater degree of client interaction and the emotional aspects of real estate that offices and cubicles simply could not provide.
Following a short ‘mini-retirement’ that included close to a year at sea including an 18-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, I returned to Calgary to pursue my career as a residential REALTOR®. Working for Calgary’s largest Century 21 office, I found early success and ranked in the top 5 sales people on a number of occasions.
When the economy entered recession in early 2008, I began to see increasing numbers of home sales with small levels of equity. In some cases there was not even enough equity to cover sales commissions. Time after time, I began to recognize a shift and desire among homeowners for greater control during the selling process. I founded Veer Real Estate Inc. to provide sellers with a new avenue for selling real estate.

The origins of Veer came from my day-to-day experiences as a licensed real estate professional and REALTOR®. I began to recognize a disconnect between homeowners/buyers and their Realtors. I discovered that homeowners had a great deal of passion for the place they called home. They had an intimate familiarity with the area, local schools, and local transsit. I also recognized a trend among buyers, who were more than happy to take the initiative to search the MLS, research communities, and even drive by properties that were of interest to them.
